Bhashini is India's government-backed language AI platform built to break down language barriers across the country. It brings together translation, speech-to-text, text-to-speech and document tools so people can use digital services in their own Indian language. It is aimed at everyday citizens, government services, and developers who want to add Indian-language support to their apps.
No technical setup needed — anyone can try Bhashini using below mentioned steps.
Download the Bhashini app on your phone from the Google Play Store (for Android) or the App Store (for iPhone). You can also use the official Bhashini website.
Open the app, choose the language you want to read the menus in, and tap "Continue" on the welcome screen.
Select your preferred voice assistant. Short tutorial boxes will pop up the first time you use a new feature to help you understand how it works.
Choose how you want to translate. You have four options:
Converse: Have a live, two-way conversation with someone who speaks a different language.
Text: Type your sentences to translate them instantly.
Voice: Speak into your phone, and it will turn your words into translated text.
Scan: Take a picture of a document, and the app will translate the text and read it out loud.
At the top of the screen, select your Source language (the language you are starting with) and your Target language (the language you want to translate into).
Works in these languages, in both native script and Roman typing.
